Why Quebec and Ontario sit this one out
Ontario regulates online casino-style gaming through iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Quebec's online gaming runs through its provincial crown corporation, and the province also applies specific French-language requirements to consumer-facing services. Velvet Ember is neither a gambling product nor a French-language service, and rather than operate in a grey zone we've made a simple call: we don't accept players who live in Quebec or Ontario. If that's you, please don't register — and thanks for understanding.
Made for the way Canadians actually play
Most of our Canadian players drop in for a few minutes at a time — a lunch break in Calgary, a ferry crossing in Nova Scotia, a long winter evening in Yellowknife. So the site is built light: pages are small enough for a patchy rural data connection, games open in an on-page window that fits any phone, and there's nothing to install. Your profile remembers you on the device you signed up with.
Not gambling, and proud of it. Credits are virtual, refill on their own and have zero cash value. Nothing can be bought, won, cashed out or transferred. Doing well here says nothing about real-money gambling.

Canada questions
Which provinces and territories can play?
Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan, plus the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon. Residents of Quebec and Ontario cannot register or play.
Why aren't Quebec and Ontario included?
Both provinces run their own frameworks for online casino-style entertainment — Ontario through iGaming Ontario and the AGCO, Quebec through its provincially run online offering — and Quebec also has specific French-language rules for consumer services. Rather than try to squeeze a free social game into systems built for something else, we've decided not to operate in either province.
Do I need Canadian dollars or a credit card?
No. Nothing on Velvet Ember costs anything, in any currency. There's no shop, no coin packs and no payment form anywhere on the site.
Is the minimum age 19 like some provinces?
No — ours is stricter. Velvet Ember is 21+ everywhere it operates, regardless of the provincial age of majority.
